General Responsibilities:
· Develop design and drawing packages from first generation post-prototype design to low cost, high volume design for various subsystems/sub-assemblies of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) generating device.
· Develop cost allocation at a component level and work with suppliers and internal design team to develop and procure components/ subsystems that meet all cost and functional requirements.
· Develop and implement disciplined process for vendor technical capability evaluation, transition of design requirements from Product Development to vendors and Quality control systems.
· In conjunction with Supply Chain Management, actively visit and assess supplier capabilities identifying and qualifying new technologies and vendors/suppliers as necessary.
· Lead new components/subsystems verification and close loop with the supplier base to ensure resolution of all technical issues via root cause and corrective actions.
· Keep abreast of technology trends to ensure that a global approach is taken in identifying appropriate design and technology to ensure lowest product cost.
Areas of Specialization:
· The ideal candidate will specialize in high volume production of low cost electrical and electronics parts including PCBs, wire harnesses and other electromechanical parts.
· The existing design has room for further integration, repackaging and functional consolidation to achieve higher reliability, manufacturability and cost reduction. The Cost Reduction Engineer will work with the Design team and external vendors to identify such opportunities and develop parts that will meet all performance and cost goals.
Education and Experience Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical, Electronics or Industrial preferred.
· 4+ years of Product Development in fast paced environment.
· Strong level of project management and communications skills.
· Experience with lean design and six sigma lean manufacturing principles, preferably from working in the automotive industry.
· Experience in international sourcing, vendor/supplier relations and negotiations
· Ability to travel up to 50% - domestic and international
